National Permaculture Day - 1 May

National Permaculture Day Permaculture Blue Mountains joined with groups from Cairns to Bega to celebrate the 2nd National Permaculture Day on Saturday 1 May. Over 130 people visited the gardens at Blackheath and Hazelbrook and the workshop at Blue Mountains Organic Community Gardens Katoomba. Vsiitors came from as far a field as Bankstown and Kiama.

People were very interested in what could be grown in the upper mountains, the espalier fruit trees and range of trees grown, chook tractors and the water management systems. Children were particularly interested in the chooks being able to feed them and pat them.

One Blackheath resident recalled hearing Bill Mollison speak at Springwood in the 1970's.
Over 30 gardens were open across Sydney and for some gardens there were queues waiting to enter.
